What a Delhi to Manali cab actually costs in 2026

Delhi to Manali is 520 km and about ten and a half hours of driving. That length is what makes the quote confusing: it is long enough that per-km rates, driver allowance and tolls all become material, and long enough that a quote which omits one of them looks competitive right up until the driver asks for cash at a toll plaza.

Here is every line item, using the figures our dispatch team books against.

What the all-inclusive fare covers

Vehicle classOne-way fareFASTag toll (one way)Fare per km
Sedan (Dzire / Etios)₹6,499₹650₹12.5
SUV (Ertiga / XL6)₹8,999₹980₹17.3
Innova Crysta / Hycross₹11,499₹980₹22.1
Force Urbania₹18,999₹1,950₹36.5

Read the last column before anything else. A sedan works out to roughly ₹12.5 per km on this corridor and an Urbania to about ₹36.5 — but neither number is the per-km rate you would be quoted for a short local trip, because a 520 km one-way booking absorbs the return leg the vehicle has to drive empty. That is the single biggest reason outstation pricing looks strange next to city pricing.

The fare above includes the driver's allowance, the vehicle, fuel, and the Himachal Pradesh green cess and commercial entry tax. It is a one-way figure.

Tolls: what we can tell you, and what we will not invent

The FASTag column is the total for the corridor, by vehicle class. Sedan tolls come to ₹650 one way; an Urbania pays ₹1,950 because it sits in a heavier axle class at every plaza on the route.

What we are not going to do is print a plaza-by-plaza breakdown. We hold verified corridor totals, not a per-plaza ledger, and dividing a total across a list of plaza names we half-remember would produce a table that looks authoritative and is wrong. If a per-plaza breakdown matters to you — for a company expense claim, typically — ask us and we will send the actual FASTag statement for your trip after it runs.

Two things about the axle classes are worth knowing because they surprise people:

  • Innova and Ertiga pay the same toll. Both are in the same class at these plazas, so the ₹980 figure is identical for SUV and Innova even though the fares differ by ₹2,500. Toll is not what separates them.
  • Urbania toll is exactly double the SUV rate. That is a real pattern on this corridor, not a coincidence — it is the standard light/heavy commercial ratio.

The Kiratpur tunnels changed this corridor

The number that dates most quickly on this route is the drive time. The Kiratpur-Nerchowk four-lane, with its five twin-tube tunnels, cut roughly 40 km off the old alignment and removed the Swarghat curves entirely. Ten and a half hours is the post-tunnel figure. Quotes and blog posts still circulating with thirteen- and fourteen-hour drive times are describing a road that no longer exists in that form.

This matters commercially. On a two-day-each-way itinerary, a shorter drive can drop a night of driver accommodation out of the total.

Where the money actually goes on a multi-day trip

For a return trip the per-km rate falls but two new costs appear: the driver allowance for every day the vehicle is with you, and the daily minimum kilometre charge.

The round-trip per-km column is the one that applies once you are keeping the vehicle. A five-day Manali trip in an Innova Hycross is not five times the one-way fare — it is the round-trip rate across the kilometres you actually cover, plus ₹500 a day for the driver.

Two consequences people miss:

  1. Idle days still cost money. If the car sits at your hotel for two days while you walk around Old Manali, you still owe the driver allowance and the daily minimum. Sometimes it is genuinely cheaper to take a one-way drop and book a local vehicle in Manali.
  2. The driver needs somewhere to sleep. Reputable operators build this in; if a quote is unusually low, this is often what is missing.

What is not in the fare

Stated plainly, because this is where disputes come from:

  • Parking charges at Solang, the Atal Tunnel approach and Mall Road. Paid at actuals.
  • Rohtang Pass permit, if you want to go beyond the tunnel. We can arrange it in advance through our travel desk, but it is a separate cost and a limited daily quota.
  • Anything past Sissu into Lahaul in winter, which depends on conditions on the day and is not something any operator can promise in a quote made weeks earlier.

The honest comparison

2 travellers₹3,600₹24,000₹6,499Train
4 travellers₹7,200₹48,000₹6,499Cab
7 travellers₹12,600₹84,000₹11,499Cab

Source: Train and flight fares per person from the HireTrust verified corridor record (Vande Bharat to Chandigarh + Volvo Bus, 12+ hrs (With bus waiting & station change); flight 1 hr 15 mins (Delhi to Bhuntar KUU) - Highly weather dependent). Cab figures are the published one-way fare for the smallest vehicle that seats the group, so the cab column is a total, not a per-person figure.

There is no train to Manali. The rail option is Vande Bharat to Chandigarh and then a Volvo bus, which totals over twelve hours once you include the wait and the station change. The flight to Bhuntar is genuinely fast at an hour and a quarter, and genuinely unreliable — it is a small hill airstrip and cancellations for weather are routine, which is a bad property for the outbound leg of a holiday.

For two people the train-plus-bus combination is cheaper than a sedan. For four or more it stops being cheaper, and it was never as convenient.

If you are deciding right now

Book the vehicle class by luggage, not by headcount — every group we have moved to Manali underestimated luggage, because it is a place people pack jackets for. Six people in an Ertiga fits on paper and does not fit in practice once there are six winter bags.

Related corridors with the same verified treatment: the Delhi to Shimla taxi run shares the NH-44 leg as far as Ambala, and Delhi to Chandigarh taxi is the natural overnight break if you would rather not do 520 km in one day.
